Clients Participate in Test Program

April 12, 2009

Both John’s Auto Care and St. Augustine’s Parish are participating in Salt City Tech’s latest test program to see if Google Apps can provide a suitable solution for its clients’ email needs.  Google Apps is a service from Google for using custom domain names with several of Google’s online collaboration products, including Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs.

Customers still retain their domain’s email address though the actual messages are stored on Google’s servers.  Designated administrators can manage their domain’s addresses.  Users can retrieve their mail via POP3 or IMAPv4 if they use a traditional mail client, or a familiar GMail interface which is re-branded with their logo.

“The current trend in IT is towards virtualization, cloud computing, and distributed services-- and with good reason,” said Timothy Boronczyk, Owner of Salt City Tech.  “Taking advantages of these services help keep costs down and providers and offers greater access and flexibility for the consumer.” The ability to take advantage of Google’s state-of-the-art spam filtering is one of the major benefits of migrating email services to Google Apps.

A free Google Apps account allows up to 50 email accounts for the domain.  Salt City Tech pricing has yet to be determined, but as participants in the test program have had their mail transferred over free-of-charge.  “We certainly aren’t going to charge for a service we’re not providing, but there may be nominal set-up cost charged by Salt City Tech if the client asks us to set things up for them.  Setting up an account, validating it, and then migrating existing emails and contacts can be a large undertaking depending on the size of the organization,” says Boronczyk.

October 3, 2008

The first patch was submitted to Geany itself, a lightweight text editor with the basic features of an integrated development environment.  The modification moves a hidden preference that was originally changable only in the application’s configuration file into the preferences dialog screen.  The change is expected to be available in release 0.15.

The second patch was submitted to GeanySendMail, a plug-in that allows a user to email the current working document directly from the IDE.  The change allows the plugin to prompt for a recipient’s email address instead of the address needing to be hardcoded in the configuration.  The change is expected to be available in release 0.4.
